I have started writing this post a few times, and I am having trouble knowing where to start. I guess you could say I am speechless after reading about new guidelines on how to drug children.
The use of psychiatric drugs by preschoolers has increased by more than 50 percent in girls and more than 60 percent in boys, according to recent studies. Attention-deficit disorder hyperactivity drug Ritalin is No. 1 prescribed psychiatric medication for preschoolers, followed by antidepressants Prozac and Zoloft.
Yeah, they are talking about preschoolers, folks.
What, you may ask, does a preschooler have to be depressed about? Oh, I don’t know, maybe getting up in the wee hours to drive to daycare and spend the day with lots of other children–but without a parent. Being bounced around from place to place in custody battles probably doesn’t do much for them either. But good news! Adults no longer need to sort things out and work on what is best for the kids. Now they can just medicate them and live happily ever after. Adults take pills for that, too.
