The Long case has been in the news the last couple days, ever since the LA Times picked up the story. I first saw a report of it on Bending the Twigs that linked an article from World Net Daily. The bigger the story gets, the more the commentary grows and the facts of the case are obscured.

A couple friends of mine got called to do a local news interview. I found that over dinner because one of the friends couldn’t do it because she and her family were having dinner at our house. It is a little thing we homeschoolers do called socialization. I hear that kids socialize in the public schools too, which might explain why they have to send so much homework home with kids.

This morning I got a call from a reporter asking for a comment on the story. I had to look it up again and think it over because I just haven’t been able to muster a lot of outrage or fear from this one ruling.

Even after going over it all again and having a fairly long conversation with the reporter, I am still not worried that homeschooling will be outlawed in California. We shall see. There are a lot of big names weighing in on this issue.

I’m actually more worried that my quotes will sound dorky. You know what I mean. Talking on the phone to a stranger is different than talking face to face with a friend, so we’ll see.

As I was looking around tonight, I think that the frenzy is growing, not quieting, but there is a calm discussion going on here, along with a great comment by Doc.
