We had our own Mr. Rogers in Canada, Ernie Coombs.

From Wikipedia:
" As an understudy to Fred Rogers, he traveled to Canada in 1963 to work for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation on an early version of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Rogers moved back to the United States the following year, but Coombs decided to stay in Canada, joining a new show called Butternut Square. Butternut Square ran from 1964 to 1967."

He became a Canadian citizen in 1994 and died in 2001. I think I almost cried on both occasions. Even through the TV the are people, like Mr. Rogers and Mr. Dressup, that we can be close to and love dearly.

CBC stopped broadcasts of Mr. Dressup in 2006. Hope you guys are successful in rescueing Mr. Rogers from that fate.
