Our chickens are starting to get very curious about life outside the brood pen. Very curious indeed. Brian had hoped to finish up the hoophouse today and then transfer the chicks in, but there were a few engineering difficulties. This hoophouse will be the prototype and then we hope 4 more will follow. Soon, very soon. The next 100 chicks are scheduled to arrive in a couple weeks, so he has his work cut out for him. Meanwhile, the kids are doing a great job of working out a schedule to help with the feeding and watering. The older hens are starting to produce again after going through their first molt (think “really bad hair day” for a few weeks straight).
I hope to get some pictures up as soon as the first hoophouse is finished. Meanwhile, if you are interested in portable housing for chickens, here is a site with a lot of great pictures of different styles of coops.
