I am pretty sure I wasn’t warped by playing with Barbie as a child. Some may disagree, and then I have to confess that I only had a few so there must have been other factors warping my impressionable mind. I was more interested in reading and running around through the orchards behind my house when I was of a Barbie-playing age. My girls alternately love them and shove them in the back of the closet. My boys use them as weapons of mass destruction.
I’m just not sure a legal ban on Barbie is going to do much for society. And if they do manage to pass such a law in West Virginia, will the nation follow? This bill to ban Barbie and similar dolls was introduced by a Democrat. California has had a Democratic-controlled legislative body for as long as I can remember. Hmmmm……
If the California legislature wakes up to the inherent evil that IS Barbie, what will become of all the Barbies out there? Should I expect the SWAT team to come and demand that my girls turn over their contraband? Will we need to go underground, all in defense of a piece of anatomically deformed plastic?
Maybe I should move to West Virginia where, apparently, there are no more pressing problems for lawmakers to address than the type of toys available in stores. I could use a break from the perpetual no-budget state of California. (Ok, we have a budget approved now–think we’ll have enough $ to make it til the next round of wrangling? Think the next budget will make the deadline? And where the heck is my tax refund?????)
legislators had to realize proposing a Barbie ban would cause a big media stir but, then again, maybe this was strategic…
