
My son came in the other day, pencil and paper in hand.
“Mom, I’m gonna write you a note.”
“OK,” I said. Since he is just about to turn five, I thought he might need some help.
“How do you spell ‘Dear’?” Atticus asked.
“D”
“OK”
“E”
“Uh-huh”
“A”
“OK”
“R. That’s it.”
“OK, how do you spell ‘Mom’?”
“M-O-M”
“Thanks, Mom.”
“Now what are you gonna write?”
“I’m gonna write ‘Thanks for lunch.’ How do you spell that?”
“How about if I write it and you can copy it?”
And so he did. And then he wrote “Love, Atticus” and made the “o” into a heart.
Boys are great.
